The Texas Secretary of State is set to certify the official election results for the Democratic primary. As predicted, Barack Obama has beaten Hillary Clinton. While Clinton won the state’s popular vote, Obama racked up more caucus support, so that, now that the final tally is in, the Lone Star state’s delegate total reads:

Obama: 61 delegates from the popular vote + 38 delegates from caucuses = 99 delegates.

Clinton: 65 delegates from the popular vote + 30 delegates from Caucuses = 95 delegates.

So news people can now stop saying “two big wins in Ohio and Texas.” Big win in Ohio, sure, but not Texas.

Arrogance is one of those words that beg the company of a qualifier, in this case, “breathtaking”. Certainly both belong, together and separately, to the scandal of Eliot Spitzer, the Governor of New York (at the time of writing, anyway) and his reckless (another appropriate term) detours into the world of high-class prostitution. But no words, in any combination, sufficed yesterday in trying to make sense of his actions.

Just read, if you have the stomach, the affidavit widely available online detailing the alleged events of 13 February inside Room 871 at the swanky May-flower Hotel in Washington, close to the White House (and this newspaper’s bureau). He, sources have confirmed, is Client 9. She was Kristen, young, brunette and 5ft5ins, and quite sanguine about this john’s reputation for activities “you might not think safe”. He had reserved four hours with her. He used only half that. Who could make this stuff up?

Democrat Barack Obama easily beat rival Hillary Clinton in Mississippi on Tuesday, giving him new momentum in their heated presidential fight as they head to the next showdown in Pennsylvania in six weeks.

Obama, who would be the first black U.S. president, rode a wave of heavy black support to victory and extended his lead over Clinton in pledged delegates to the August nominating convention. The Illinois senator also won on Saturday in Wyoming.

Clinton revived her hopes in the Democratic race last week by beating Obama in primaries in Ohio and Texas, prolonging their bitter Democratic fight for the right to face Republican John McCain in November’s presidential election.
